Airpods Pro VS Airpods Pro 2

Content
In September, there was a presentation of new products from Apple, among which was an updated version of the AirPods Pro 2 wireless headphones. At first glance, it is quite difficult to distinguish this version from the basic one. In the comparison, we will see if the new headset has any fundamental differences from its predecessor: visual, technical and functional.
Design and dimensions
AirPods Pro 2 are made in Apple's signature futuristic style in white. The case for storing and charging a fresh model has dimensions of 60×45×21 mm and weighs 50 grams. AirPods Pro come with a 45.6g charging case. The novelty has a strap mount and a speaker grille. Now the case is convenient to carry without buying additional cases and covers. Both versions have an IPX4 rating for earbuds, and the updated model also has a case. The AirPods Pro and AirPods Pro 2 themselves do not differ in appearance. The size of each earphone is 31×22×24 mm, weight 5.4g.
What's in the box
The Apple headset comes with a charging case. The kit also includes a set of silicone ear tips: the Pro 2 has four sizes, and the Pro has three. Both models come with a Lightning to USB-C cable.
Technical data
One of the main differences between the two generations of Apple wireless headsets is the chips. The Pro 2 is controlled by the H2 chip, the Pro was equipped with the H1. The new one has, according to the developers, improved sound bandwidth and increased performance and energy efficiency. It makes high notes clearer and bass richer, possible sound distortion is minimized. The noise-canceling feature in the new version is 2 times stronger than the previous version - for a completely immersive music, conversation, or podcast. Specifications:
- Sensors. The earbuds themselves of both generations are equipped with an identical set of sensors - motion detection, voice detection, pressure detection - dual beam forming microphones, internal microphone.
- 5.3 VS 5.0. In addition to the filling, the developers have updated the audio drivers and amplifier, which made the sound even better. The supported Bluetooth standard has also changed: 5.3 versus 5.0 for the first generation of headphones.
- Speaker. The latest version of the case has its own built-in speaker. Now the case is beeping when the battery reaches a critical charge, the headphones are connected to the playback device, or you just lost the case in your bag and are looking for it with your smartphone.
Functions and technologies
Both generations of AirPods Pro support similar technologies, already standard for Apple headsets, but in the updated version they have improved parameters thanks to the new chip. Models support active noise reduction. Autumn's novelty uses an adaptive transparency mode, which makes phone conversations through the headset even more comfortable. And the first and the second version support spatial audio playback with head tracking.
Management
Built-in sensors make it easy to control the headphones. Pressing can, for example, start playback or stop to answer a phone call, fast-forward or rewind tracks. These features are the same for both models. Holding your finger on the earbud switches the device from noise-canceling to transparent and back. The first and second generation headphones understand voice commands thanks to the support of the Siri assistant. An important feature of the AirPods Pro 2 is support for swipe movements, up / down along the “foot” of the headphone, with which you can adjust the volume.
Autonomy and charging
The case on both models supports MagSafe fast charging. It can also work with Qi charger and Lightning connector. A five-minute pause in the case replenishes the battery of the headphones, which is enough for an hour of work. The headset now has a total battery life of up to 30 hours on a charging case, six hours longer than the previous version. Half an hour is enough to recharge the battery, after which AirPods Pro 2 can work up to 6 hours of music listening and up to 4.5 hours of talk time. Significantly more - compared to 5 and 3.5 hours respectively for the Pro version.
