Women and Their Role in African Society; The Literature of the Seventies

Extensive and critical bibliographic account of the rapidly developing body of materials relevant to the role of women in African societes. This work is an effort to bring together in bibliographic form a large number of materials written about African women during the 1970’s when so much took place. The list – selected primarily from English language materials – is arranged in alphabetical order of author’s names. In a preface the author exposes the framework of the bibliography, making reference, inter alia, to the 1972 United Nations Declaration creating the Women’s Year, the 1975 World Conference in Mexico City, and the proclamation of the decade 1976-1985 the ‘United Nations Decade for Women: Equality, Development, Peace’.
