Regional and social development problems in Nigeria

in this paper the author analysed the causes, pattern and the extent of regional, industrial and educational disparities in Negeria. The study showed that the Southern States are more developed than the Northern States. But in addition, the more advanced Southern States, for reasons of their levels of development, are more adequately supplied with required highlevel manpower to execute their various development programmes, thus widening the existing development disparities among the various regions. The author noted that the persistence of such disparities is not healthy for the continued existence of Nigeria as a single entity. Some policy measures designed to reduce the widening gap were suggested. Ref., tab.
