Africa in the Indian press

In India several factors contributed to the understanding of African problems. Assessment of the coverage of Africa in the Indian press shows that, despite the closeness between Africa and India, the coverage – Is generally inadequate and casual. After an analysis of the causes underlying the present state of affairs follow some suggestions for improvement of the coverage of Africa in Indian newspapers. While the political coverage of Africa in the Indian press is only keeping pace with critical developments in the continent, the economic coverage has received a boost. Although at present Africa is not getting its due share of space in the Indian press, the current trend is for a better coverage. But a co-ordinated effort on all fronts is needed if a proper ‘African image’ is to be built up in India. Table.
